Fast Track Your Weight Loss in 2010

By JJ Virgin
It’s already the middle of January and you might be wondering, “Did I shape up yet? Did I lose the weight?” Wake up call: You’ve been going to the gym and working on your eating habits since Jan. 2, which is only a week or two. It still begs the question: How can I fast track my weight loss?
Most of my clients are busy people who want to see results yesterday. Here are a few of my favorite ways to get to your health, fitness or weight loss goal even quicker.
*Get rid of the bad whites. Good whites include that new white T-shirt. Bad whites include white flour and sugar. Try to rid them from your diet, which means goodbye cookies, doughnuts, cakes, muffins, white bread and anything else with sugar in it.
*Don’t get tricked. That also means you should ditch the high frutose corn syrup products. Make sure you become a label reader in 2010. High frutose corn syrup is sugar and treat it accordingly.
*Add fat back into your diet. For all of you who have been fat free, it’s time to realize that your body and brain need fat to function. But what fat? I love to use coconut milk as a great healthy fat or extra virgin olive oil.
*Get out there and burst. It only takes 20-30 minutes a day to do my cardio bursting training. This includes a three minute warm up and then moderate cardio for 2 minutes followed by a 1 minute burst where you go hard (think of how you felt as a kid with lungs burning racing somewhere). Then another two minutes moderate and burst again. Finish with a three minute cool down. Do this every other day and add weight training to your non-bursting days.
*Make sure you actually go grocery shopping with a list. There’s nothing worse than standing there in the grocery store and just tossing things in the cart. Plan out your healthy meals for the week and then shop accordingly. You will also save dollars this way.
*Kill your sweet tooth. When you stop eating sugar, you will retrain your taste buds and free yourself FOREVER from sugar addictions. Replace processed sugary carbs with fruits that are tart and tangy. Believe it or not, I promise you will stop craving the sugar. Soon, sugary treats enjoyed every once in awhile will seem much too sweet. (By the way, xylitol is my sweetener of choice).
*Stop snacking. You just need to eat three solid meals a day. Continual snacking turns your body into a sugar burning machine and not a fat burning machine.
*Don’t forget to sleep. You need 7 to 9 hours of unbroken, solid sleep each night to repair your body. Make a conscious decision to wind down earlier, go to bed in a cool, dark room and get your quality ‘zzzzzz’s.
*Don’t fret the small stuff. Remember, it’s all small stuff. Vow to rid as much stress from your life as possible. It’s good for your health and will help you reach your fitness goals faster.
